Western North Carolina Real Estate

Western North Carolina Living

Known as the "Land of the Sky" and "The High Country", Western North Carolina real estate houses some of the most beautiful land in the country. Keeping this beauty in mind, the local government has made sure that parks are plentiful, safe and clean enough for all visitors to enjoy. Since there are dozens of parks made available to the public through the North Carolina Division of State Parks, it is easy enough to find one close by. With larger cities like Asheville, Hendersonville, Boone, Hickory, Lenoir, Morganton and Waynesville nestled amongst over 70 smaller cities with populations under 10,000 (including Flat Rock, Lake Lure, Tryon, Laurel Park and Mills River), Western North Carolina's committment to the education of their children shows with the Henderson County Public Schools System being ranked amongst the top school districts in the state. Three Western Carolina University campuses are located in the area as well as two public universities (UNC Asheville and Appalachian State University), many liberal arts colleges and several colleges affiliated with different religious organizations.

Western North Carolina On The Move

Transportion to and from Western North Carolina real estate is made easy through Interstate 40 and Interstate 26 as well as the multi-lane US Hwy 421, the major highway throughout the northwestern part of North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Parkway is another transportation corridor that runs throughout the Western North Carolina area. There are also two major railroads (Norfolk Southern and CSX) and two tourist railroads (Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and Tweetsie Railroad) that run through the area. The major airport in the Western North Carolina region is the Asheville Regional Airport in Fletcher, just southeast of Asheville. The AVL services all major cities in the Eastern United States with non-stop flights.

The Great Outdoors of Western North Carolina

With all the natural beauty that Western North Carolina real estate has to offer, it's always easy to find something to do here. Enjoy the great outdoors close up through any one of the public campgrounds located throughout the area, including the state parks, National Forests and the Blue Ridge parkway. Some of the gorgeous state parks and national forests include the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Nantahala National Forest and the Pigsah National Forest. The Biltmore Estate and the Carl Sandburg Home are grand examples of Western North Carolina's history. Some of the wonderful museums in the area include the Museum of the Cherokee Indian (in Cherokee), the Wheels Through Time Museum (in Maggie Valley) and the North Carolina Arboretum (in Bent Creek). Restaurants and shopping are plentiful as well. One visit to the Western North Carolina area and you will see beauty not only in the land but in the people as well.
